Formation

Although the Catholic Church in the United States has seen an overall decline in the number of men responding to their vocations in the priesthood, MSF believes that God has not necessarily lessened the number He is calling to serve. Rather, those men are still out there and have not yet responded. MSF is prepared to respond to men who are hearing that call.

With one of the founding purposes of the MSF Order being the support of vocations to the priesthood and brotherhood, MSF’s Formation Apostolate is very important. There is a great amount of detail to this process and only some highlights will be reviewed.

The MSF Formation Process develops both priests and brothers. The Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, TX provides the formal education from which seminarians receive their certificates and degrees.

The MSF Formation house is located just a few blocks from the school. The formation house can accommodate several seminarians. Included in the home is a small chapel where there is liturgy, community prayer and where our Lord is present for personal prayer, reflection and adoration.

The formation process for the priesthood can last over 10 years and the process for the brotherhood can last over 8 years.
